New Brand: Marco Santaniello

Secondo appuntamento con New Brand, un piccolo focus su persone che realizzano le proprie idee. Dopo numerosi giri di mail, conosciamo meglio Marco Santaniello.
Brand First of all I am not a Brand, I am a fashion anarchist and don’t care about the ‘rules’ of the fashion system or whatever the brands follow. To me there is no spring/summer or autumn/winter and there is no womenswear/menswear not yet J I make unisex stuff.
Date of birth / Place of birth 18 Dicember 1981 / Cosenza, Italy
Distinguishing marks I am a Superstar and I only care about Love
How would you describe your clothing?
I think that everything I do is pretty POP/KAWAII/SWAG , and All I do is so funny and colorful, probably because I am mainly a pop artist.
How does the creative process start?
Most of the time all the stuff I create starts from casuality. I really believe in casuality, so every daily situation can be the perfect moment to make something. I don’t take inspiration from anything but my brain. Im a sort of globetrotter and I love to be involved and getting mixed with other culture. I think all of this might be inside my creations. Besides that I always want to send messages all over the world to people, message about freedom and being yourself in every situation and never listen to the opinion of the others, they are just envy because you have the courage to do something and they don’t. Fuck the society.

From what you start when realizing a collection? material, color, an idea, a vision?
As I was saying I don’t follow the usual fashion rules so I can’t say I make collections but anyway of course I always try to have a sort of starting mood before creating them. So I guess I transform a simple Idea in something really simple but DOpe :P! My favorite textile is PVC, that I often use on tshirts and tskirts. Im starting to bring my fashion design to a next level. I ll start to make menswear ( especially skirts and trousers for men )
How much the ideas weight on Marco Santaniello’s creations?
This question sounds a bit strange, I mean you can create anything without ideas. Even the most unfashion thing starts from an idea. Ideas and especially using the brain and making things with a message is the most important thing to me. I don’t like to make clothes only for a fashion purpose. That’s fashion brands aim: selling and making money from silly fashion victims. Im glad the world is full of fashion victims because the fashion world is funny and amuse me, and I love the fashion week atmosphere, fashion shows and parties J.
We mentioned the role of inspiration, but beyond inspiration stands indeed the “destination” of an idea. Who are the women/men to whom Marco Santaniello look at?
I guess that everyone who’s looking for something really fresh but really simple at the same time. I think that My People are people that really appreciate all my efforts to say all my statements and of course they agree with them. When I sell something is not only about a tshirt , a price , a customer and that’s it. People buy a piece of me, I think my personality and my character are really important for my people.
How and How much the “street style” influence your collections?
I think I m a sort of trendsetter in the streetstyle so it might sounds obvious but I make the street style in my way so It doesn’t affect me in any way…I guess so J.

How much “Made in Italy” is in your style and how much of foreign influences…
There is no made in italy in what I do, except that the PVC is sewed by hands by my italian mum and I make the print on the tshirt using my hands J Italy is a country that doesn’t represent me at all. I still dunno how all over they think is a fashion core….I love my italian friends and most of them are super cool, but Im sure that they will leave Italy as soon as they can. Italy is the worst place in the world for young people in fashion. There is no support at all. I talk about Italy because Im italian. I live btwn New York and Tokyo and I am quite happy about that.
THE TSKIRT
The tskirt is actually really simple. I patented it on 2007. It’s a tshirt that you wear upside down. There’s an elastic in the waist and a coulisse so you can choose your perfect fit. In fact there are only 2 different sizes of it for adult. I put sometimes buttons and sometimes zip as closure of the head hole. That’s it J pretty simple ah ? J
